LEARNING FROM THE STUDENTS

WHAT IS LEARNING? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary

LEARNING means: knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or study

It is not just transmitting information that we know, but to make sure they acquire it and know how to apply it.  If you want to know what TO TEACH means please refer to this link. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/teach . So it is our responsibility as educators to not only impart the knowledge but make sure those who receive it know how to make it useful To be able to deliver a great understanding of this amazing language, I always consider the following:

WHAT THEY NEED

One of the most important questions I always ask myself is:

WHAT DO MY STUDENT NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THE INFORMATION GIVEN?

Everytime I meet a new student, I assess their previous knowledge. While doing it I am alert to find WHAT DO THEY NEED. Some kids need clarification to make sense of the many things that they learned. Others need to relearn the basics of the language because they didn't get it right the first ( and only) time they were taught. But what I find amazing is that most of them need to

UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF WHAT
THEY  LEARNED.

WHAT THEY UNDERSTAND

When I ask the kids what they are struggling with the most, the answer is always the same:

" I KNOW WHAT I NEED TO DO, BUT I DON't UNDERSTAND IT"

You might ask yourself what does this mean. Well, for starters, they are not taught to think. Most of the learning is done by repetition and copying from the book. When I ask a student to explain to me what they know about a specific thing, they have NO CLUE how to explain it to me.

Flashcards can be helpful and also harmful. Kids get many new words to make flashcards and at the end of the day they might remember just a few.  So I offer them alternative ways to study and mostly... TO LEARN

CREATIVE

TEACHING

DOES THIS DEFINITION EXIST?

YES,IT DOES

Many people have tried to define what creative teaching means. This is what I believe:

CREATIVE TEACHING is the process of teaching students with the main goal of encouraging them to think, err, and find their own solutions.

Nowadays, teaching has become more and more boring. Sadly it is hard to find teachers that still have the passion to teach. Teaching is not about passing information to the learner. It is about seeing the needs of the learner and transform information so each one can understand in their own way and pace. It is all about being able to deliver knowledge which will be collected and processed by the learner.
